Daniel's birthday..

guess what?? the birthday boy made us dinner.. and (surprisingly) it was really good considering he cooked it all from scratch..

a photo of the chef with his masterpieces..

and all the lucky people who tasted his cooking.. hehe..

the yummy cake.. but.. try counting the candles.. you'll notice that the figure on the cake doesn't coincide.. haha.. hmm.. wonder who's mistake.. hehe.. jk..

nothing says it better than a smile.. (non-verbal communication.. darn.. all this jargons better stop popping up in my head.. hehe..)

all the yummy food was washed down my sago gula melaka.. very nice considering we're his guinea pigs.. hehe..

happy birthday again daniel..

freedom!!

unfortunately, like all good things, it doesn't last.. have to start studying again for EOS.. sigh.. might as well live in the library already.. :(

now for a sneak preview of what happened in the past week.. (backwards :P)

After Summative 2 celebration..
after the test.. some of us had to go and do our AIR topic (ask IMU lar why put dateline same day as exam.. sigh).. while the rest of us went to endah parade.. all the way to eat thong yuen.. hehe.. yum.. and when we were pouring in the sugar, our minds were saying "diabetes mellitus, hyperglycaemia, glycosuria".. seriously, this medical thingy is starting to grow on us.. haha..

when the rest have submitted their AIR, we went midvalley.. woohoo!! watched runaway vacation.. basically its a movie about this family who (in my opinion) treats their father really badly.. but the father still goes the distance for his family (aww.. so sweet).. well it was a really touching movie and i guess the moral of the story is to treat your parents better.. hehe..

then, i went to watch Tokyo Drift.. it was a great movie.. lots of action.. the best part is, the accidents in the movie make my accident look really teeny weeny.. haha.. after the movie.. some smart fella went and make a wrong turn so we spent a significant amount of time sightseeing in Bangsar.. haha..
then went to had dinner in asia cafe.. you must be wondering why i'm so free to take a photo of the receipt.. well.. look carefully. the price for the drink is RM1.30 and RM 3.80.. which is ok.. then they give us a 5% discount and then a 5% government tax.. so it comes out to the same.. this really doesn;t make sense.. sigh.. the extent people will go to make their stuff look cheaper.. :P

now, my final PBL in

my last PBL with this group.. and this is what our typical PBL sessions look like..

gonna miss you guys.. *sob sob*

me playing KNIGHT ONLINE!!!!

Can u imagine me playing Knight Online??

I can't believe myself doing it either...

Well.. i did not actually played it.. but was actually doing my bro a favour (ahem.. how noble :p)...

Sincerely.. i thought.. just ON the computer.. set it on macro.. and my job's done.. i can study in peace.. with dad, my twin bros up in Prai for 3 whole days.. for their usual bowling tournaments.
Before leaving on Friday morning, my bro set-up everything, Chocokid, an archer on one computer and another character, Botakchee a mage on another computer, gave me last minute briefings.. and i was telling him.. piece of cake.. i can do it.. u just go and do your best and assuring him that i wont fail him.. will do my best... bla bla bla..

My first taste of knight online was after my PBL, i came back home.. sat in front of the computer and actually started to see what the heck Knight Online is all about..

Someone was asking, "Choco are you there?" I looked at the few sheets of instructions that he had scribbled for me.. but none gave me any indications on how to reply.. mmm.. i began experimenting.. but couldnt type anything.. gave him a call.. and he explained.. ok.. fine.. all goes well..

Suddenly.. something urgent came up.. and i kept my cool.. send choco to town and i bravely and proudly run back.. i know the way (bursts with pride :D).. haha.. and suddenly.. this pack of dogs, saber tooth attack me.. and i was like.. freaking out.. can actually feel that the dogs are actually attacking the real xandra.. omg.. my heart of beating so fast.. fingers trembling... epinephrine levels shoots up.. and everything went topsy turvy.. like when studying CNS.. crap..
after finally getting myself together.. i went back to my notes.. feeling that i have accomplished playing knight online..

Suddenly, the party leader wanted to change location to a better place where the players can earn more experience.. and therefore, went to Machi.. (dunno the actual name of the dogs).. my gosh.. they are hell.. its so ferrocious.. and since Botakchee is a mage.. he can tp all the other players without them walking (how i wish, we can have mage in our real world). Before i could reach the destination, i was eaten alive by the dogs.. and i was so terrified.. hands trembling
and the party leader was so impatient, was hurrying me.. and i was like.."idiotic bro why must i do this for u, i've got better things to do!!" . The other side of me.. i want to set a good example (ahem) that everything is possible.. so i told myself.. dont give up.. this is just some computer games.. and of course.. i SUCCEEDED to reach the place the party leader wanted me to be.. and successfully, tp all the other players too..(grins widely)

i actually sat in front of both the monitors and enjoy looking at all those knights, achers and what-nots killing all those montrous dogs (with the clock ticking closer and closer to my summative 2.. argh!!!!!!!!) .. i think i spend more time looking at the screen than to actually studying for my summative test which is this coming friday.. *regrets*

I missed my dinner.. my yum cha with my old friends.. all because of manning the stupid game for my bro..(not really that stupid, but i actually did had a little fun)

The worst thing happen was.. I was chatting with my bro (who logs in at a cyber cafe in Prai) on a computer.. not realising that a Troll Warrior was attacking his other character on another computer.. he typed.. RUN.. so being the innocent and blur me.. i thought.. he wanted to say, chiao, tata, goodbye.. goodnnite.. so being me, his good kind loving sister.. i bid him goodnite, sweetdreams. He shouted and typed out.. TW attacking you on the other computer.. When i finally knew what he meant.. i rolled my chair to the next computer and got a real horrifying shock to see the TW who was so near.. again.. my hands were trembling, could feel the cold sweat.. hearts pounding.. my Gosh..

Finally.. i went to bed at around 2am.. and up by 7am.. to set his game on macro.. and went back to study.. and guess what.. i couldnt study.. too many things happen.. i need to do this.. i need to do that.. and when anything happens.. i break into cold sweat.. heart pounding..fingers trembling and wat i could conclude is.. PLAYING KNIGHT ONLINE is so much more difficult than to study medicine.. so for now on.. it will be just.. Xandra is going to be a doctor.. ahahaha.. well, call me nuts but at least my notes can't attack me.. hehe..

Im so glad that my brothers are back.. i dont have to man his game..
but i must say it was worth it as he was the 2nd block leader in the Penang circuit 2006.. but sadly.. not for the finals as he injured his finger.. anyways, congrats bro..

oi bro.. you owe me a dinner at TGI.. hehe.. muax!!

first kiss..

*warning* if you are looking for a sneak preview of some juicy gossip or insights to my love life you are not at the right place.. come to think of it.. my love life= Tortora.. hehe..

ok ok.. let me set you straight.. today, is my CAR's first kiss (by me lar) sigh..today, an extremely strong magnetic force was holding me to my bed.. can't get up.. but i guess you could call it laziness.. *regrets*

so, naturally was rushing for time to get to lecture.. and out of nowhere CRASH!! (literally cos i didn't hear anything)

i was kinda shocked (ok.. to be honest, Very) and i got down to talk to the lady.. of all my luck she had to be speaking Mandarin.. crap.. so was struggling with my banana-ness and my shakiness..

thankfully it happen near my house so i called my parents.. really didn't want to initially cos i was afraid of getting skinned alive but eventually..............
xan: mum.........
mum: yeah??
xan: i bbbang someone..
mum: where??
xan: (gives description)
mum: ok i'll be there..
my dad somehow knew what had happen.. (don't ask me how.. it must be parents instincts)..
he was already at the door before my mum even told him..

so they came.. dad settle with the lady and mum sent me to uni which is a good thing cos i was shaking like a leaf.. if i had continued to drive i probably would have accumulated more than a year's worth of dents and scratches.. *sweat* or should i say perspiration..

luckily my car has just a few scratches which came off after polishing (except one which now serves as a painful reminder).. phew.. but the lady's ISWARA was dented.. (so much for belilah barangan buatan Malaysia :P)

and so, the big question.. *drum rolls*
did i get scolded??? miraculously no (jealous?? hehe).. *sighs with relief* i guess my parents was more than thankful that i'm ok.. although i did get some new driving pointers.. :P

..anyways, really owe it to my parents for being supportive.. muax!! love you guys..

moral of the story is:
1. wake up earlier..
2. look-and-go: don't assume there's no car..
3. learn mandarin or any other dialect..

ATTN: all medical students

Petition against new immigration/work permit rules for international medical students.

This online petition simply calls for a delay in the implementation of
the new immigration and visa rules for international medical students
currently studying at a UK medical school, until they have completed
their entire postgraduate training (to CCT level or equivalent). Rather
than introduce these new immigration and visa changes in one step, we,
the undersigned, would ask the Home Office to phase in the new
regulations over time.

The Home Office has recently announced changes to the immigration rules, which
will make it almost impossible for international (non-UK/EEA) doctors to get
post-foundation programme jobs in the UK. Under the new rules, all international
doctors will need to be awarded a work permit in order to work in the UK, and will only be
offered a job if there is no suitable EU or UK applicant for the job that they
are applying to.

Whilst this should ensure that there are enough jobs nationwide for medical graduates
of EEA/UK origin, our international medical students have had the rug pulled
out from under them.

When our current international medical students decided to pursue their medical education in the UK, the immigration rules that existed at the time entitled them to the same access to post-graduate jobs and training as UK graduates.

However, the government has decided to change the rules, with no exemption for those international students who are already studying medicine in the UK. We believe this is a serious injustice for those international students who made their decision to pursue their medical education in the UK on the basis that they would be permitted to complete their post-graduate medical training here. Many will now be forced to return to their home countries after just one year as an SHO, in order to complete their postgraduate training.

This petition asks that the new rulings be phased in, and that international students (who will graduate or have already graduated from a UK medical school) are allowed to complete their post-graduate training in the UK. We believe this is the only fair and honourable way for the government to proceed, as our current international students had no idea, when they decided to study here, that the goal posts would be moved so dramatically midway through their undergraduate/ postgraduate education.

-->The government has recently announced changes to the immigration rules, which will make it almost impossible for international (non-UK/EEA) doctors to get post-foundation programme jobs in the UK.

Under the new regulations, graduating International Medical Students (IMS) will be EXCLUDED for appointment in training posts after Foundation Year 2 unless there is evidence from the employer that there are no qualified UK/EEA applicants for the post.

This prevents all applicants from being assessed fairly during the process of recruitment, thus ending the equal opportunities policy and enforcing discriminatory practice.

Many International Medical Students who chose to study medicine at UK institutions were led to believe that equal opportunities for appointment to training posts would apply upon graduation.

The majority of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) trained in the UK come from developing countries with limited opportunities and resources for specialised training. Denying IMGs equal opportunities to train could mark looming healthcare crises in these countries due to future shortages of specialists.

Training links between various countries and the NHS that have been carefully nurtured for over 50 years could be dissolved.

20 Big Lies in the Da Vinci Code By James A. Beverley Source: http://www.charismamag.com/display.php?id=12860 Don't be fooled. Here are just a few ways Dan Brown's best-selling book twists and distorts the truth of the gospel. In a little more than three years The Da Vinci Code has become the best-selling adult novel of all time. It has also become the subject of intense debate among Christians because of its radical claims that undermine basic Christianity. Why all the fuss over a work of fiction? The answer lies on Page 1, where author Dan Brown asserts that "all descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate." In reality, the novel is a model of inaccuracy in almost every subject it addresses. Critics have noted its mistakes in mathematics, French geography and even the layout of the Louvre. More important, Brown's jarring claims about Jesus, the Bible, secret societies and ritual sex are based on shallow research, sloppy investigation and careless thought. However, given the novel's popularity and the staggering bravado in its tone, it is necessary for Christians to provide a critique of its central blunders.

Here are 20 of them.
1.The Bible was invented by Roman Emperor Constantine in the fourth century.
The Da Vinci Code reports that "Constantine commissioned and financed a new Bible," one that left out the Gnostic texts and included the four traditional Gospels. In fact, Constantine had nothing to do with the making of the Christian canon. He is not even mentioned in the standard Cambridge History of the Bible. The traditional Gospels were recognized by virtually all Christians 150 years before Constantine.

2. The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Gnostic Gospels are the "earliest Christian records."
Not so. The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947 and date from 250 B.C. to A.D. 100. However, these documents have virtually nothing to do with Christianity but with various Jewish groups, rituals and ideas before and during the time of Christ.

The Gnostic Gospels offer a twisted and heretical version of the Christian faith, but they didn't come into existence until about a century or more after the death of Christ.

The earliest Christian records are the writings of the New Testament.

3. The Gnostic Gospels present a positive view of the feminine.
The Gnostic texts are said to picture a human, sexualized Jesus who embraced the sacred feminine. Actually, the Jesus presented in the Gnostic material is often simply weird, and the underlying ideology tends to be radically anti-feminine. Consider this bizarre passage from the Gospel of Thomas: "Simon Peter said to them, 'Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life.' Jesus said, 'Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven.'"

4. Early Christians did not believe Jesus was God's Son.
This is a bizarre claim, rooted in either willful ignorance or blindness to the obvious. After 2,000 years, people continue to debate whether Jesus is the Son of God. But what has never been subject to doubt is that early Christians confessed that Jesus is God's Son, as the following Scriptures indicate: "Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God'" (Matt. 16:16); "But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son" (Gal. 4:4).

5. The Council of Nicea (A.D. 325) invented the divinity of Jesus.
Contrary to Brown's claim, the famous church council met to clarify the divinity of Jesus, not create it. There are thousands of references to the divinity of Jesus in Christian literature and archaeology before the Council at Nicea. This includes the hundreds of claims in the New Testament and the witness of early church leaders through the second and third centuries.

6. Jesus was really a pagan or a witch.
No standard reference works on witchcraft ever include Jesus as a witch or pagan. The novel attempts to argue that Jesus was a copycat figure of ancient pagan deities. This view depends on totally ignoring the Jewish context of the life and teaching of Jesus. If Jesus had been a pagan or a witch, this would have been noticed by the Jewish leaders who opposed Him.

7. Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene.
The novel claims that there are "countless references" to their union in ancient history and that the topic "has been explored ad nauseam by modern historians." First, there is nothing in the New Testament or other first century material about such a marriage. Second, there is no explicit mention of the alleged marriage in the Gnostic material of the second and third centuries. All we have in the Gnostic material is one reference to Mary as the "companion" of Jesus. That word, however, does not usually mean "spouse" or "wife."

8. Jesus and Mary had a child named Sarah.
The novel claims Mary was pregnant at the time of the death of Jesus. Joseph of Arimathea, her uncle, helped her move to France. There she gave birth to a girl she named Sarah. Mary and Sarah found refuge in the Jewish community in France. We are told that "countless scholars of that era chronicled Mary Magdalene's days in France." This is nothing but historical junk first made popular by the 1982 potboiler Holy Blood, Holy Grail. There are no ancient documents supporting any of these claims, and no scholars of that era chronicled these alleged events.

9. There was a smear campaign against Mary Magdalene in Catholic tradition.
To the contrary, Mary Magdalene receives positive attention in the Bible and in Catholic tradition. In fact, she is regarded as a saint, and her Feast Day is July 22. As a close disciple of Jesus, she was one of the first witnesses of His resurrection. The mistaken view that she was a prostitute did not arise until A.D. 591 when Pope Gregory I confused her with a prostitute mentioned in Luke 7:36-50.

10. A secret society named the Priory of Sion started in 1099 and has protected the bones of Mary Magdalene and documents about the bloodline of Jesus Christ.
This is one of the most significant blunders of The Da Vinci Code. The Priory of Sion was actually started in France on May 7, 1956, by a con artist named Pierre Plantard (1920-2000). The Priory was first a civic organization. In the 1960s Plantard created the mythology of a secret society led by figures such as Isaac Newton and Leonardo da Vinci.

11. Ancient documents about the Priory were discovered in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris in 1975.
The Da Vinci Code refers to these alleged parchments as Les Dossiers Secrets. These documents are not ancient but are actually forgeries done by Philippe de Ch®risey (1925-1985), a co-conspirator with Plantard. They were not discovered by the French library in 1975 but were placed there by Plantard in 1967.

Both de Ch®risey and Plantard admitted the hoax before their deaths. In fact, Plantard was forced to admit his fraud before Judge Thierry Jean-Pierre in a French court case in September 1993.

12. There are historical lists of the Grand Masters of the Priory of Sion.
Actually, when Plantard invented the Priory of Sion he copied most of his list of Grand Masters from lists of alleged leaders of other groups, such as the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, a secret society founded in America in 1915. Plantard also changed his list of Grand Masters as he adopted different conspiracy theories about his Priory of Sion.

13. The Holy Grail is not the cup used at the Last Supper but the bones of Mary Magdalene.
The novel states that "the quest for the Holy Grail is literally the quest to kneel before the bones of Mary Magdalene. A journey to pray at the feet of the outcast one, the lost sacred feminine."

The Holy Grail legends started about A.D. 1180 and continued through the 19th century. They never involved claims about the bones of Mary Magdalene. Isn't it amazing that no Priory of Sion member has ever given in to the temptation to reveal the location of the bones of Mary Magdalene?

14. The Knights Templar guarded the bones of Mary Magdalene and four huge chests of ancient documents about the bloodline of Jesus Christ and the French kings who descended from Him.
The Knights Templar is a religious military order founded in the early 12th century. Hugues de Payens, a French Knight, led eight comrades in the campaign to protect pilgrims to the Holy Land.

It has never been argued in the historical material about the Templars that they protected either Mary Magdalene or documents about French kings. These claims are the inventions of Pierre Plantard, who declared at one point that he was the descendant of Jesus and the proper heir to the French throne.

15. Leonardo da Vinci was once the Grand Master of the Priory of Sion.
The Priory started 437 years after the death of the great artist. Not one Leonardo da Vinci specialist in the entire world has supported the view that he once headed a pagan sex cult. James Beck of Columbia University calls this "total nonsense." Leonard da Vinci scholars have convened special conferences in order to debunk the novel's false claims about the famous artist.

16. Leonardo da Vinci placed Mary Magdalene next to Jesus in his famous painting The Last Supper.
In da Vinci's time everyone believed that this person was John, the beloved disciple. Renaissance art specialists have always noted that John was painted in a rather effeminate manner. The painting was not meant to reveal the identity of a woman but the tension created among the apostles after Jesus says to them, "'One of you will betray Me'" (Matt. 26:21). Of course, even if da Vinci put a woman next to Jesus in his painting, this would not tell us anything about the real Last Supper more than 14 centuries earlier.

17. The Catholic Church killed 5 million women during the Witchcraft Inquisition.
The women targeted as witches were freethinkers, scholars, priestesses, gypsies, nature lovers, mystics and midwives.

The novel radically misinterprets the nature and scope of the Inquisition. First, both men and women were targeted as witches. Second, the female victims were generally older and were not from any specific class or profession. Third, the deaths totaled no more than 100,000, counting both males and females. Most important, the Inquisition was rooted in the real belief that certain men and women actually worshiped Satan and performed diabolical acts of evil.

18. French President
Francois Mitterand ordered 666 panes of glass in the pyramid at the front entrance to the Louvre.

The novel adopts a false rumor that circulated in French society two decades ago. Mitterand did not order 666 panes of glass to be in the pyramid. In fact, the public relations office at the Louvre informed me that the pyramid actually has 673 panes of glass.

19. Early Jewish as well as Christian tradition involved sex ritualism in worship.
There is not a single hint in the entire Old Testament or in Jewish history that sex rites were part of temple worship. Jewish males did not engage in sex with priestesses in the temple. The word "priestess" is not even used in the Old Testament.

In the novel Jesus and Mary Magdalene are pictured as the ideal participants in an early Christian sex ritual. This wild claim has no basis in history, either in terms of early Christian tradition or even in reference to Gnostic documents.

20 True worship involves sex ritualism.
The Da Vinci Code states that "historically, intercourse was the act through which male and female experienced God" and that "by communing with woman © man could achieve a climactic instant when his mind went totally blank and he could see God."

The Da Vinci Code will bring great harm to every innocent religious seeker who follows its endorsement of sex ritual as the path to God. Brown is surely bluffing in his rhetoric about sex in worship. It is impossible to imagine that he really believes his own novel's ideology.

Would he be willing to participate in the ancient ritual that The Da Vinci Code defends? Would he really recommend this ancient ritual to his wife, family and friends?

In both book and movie form The Da Vinci Code represents a threat as well as an opportunity for Christians. Its danger lies in its strident assertions of falsehoods that undermine basic teachings of the gospel.

Uninformed readers and moviegoers must be made aware of the historical blunders in Dan Brown's claims. At the same time, the novel and movie create an unprecedented opportunity for believers to witness about the reliability of the Bible and its central redemptive message-that the Son of God became flesh, died on the cross and rose again.
